A Leader in Pediatric Orthotic & Prosthetic Care in Maryland

At Dankmeyer, we believe every child deserves orthotic and prosthetic care that supports mobility, independence, and confidence. For decades, families and clinicians across Maryland and neighboring states have trusted us to provide compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to the needs of infants, children, and adolescents.

Our pediatric specialists combine clinical expertise with a deep understanding of childhood development, ensuring that each prosthetic or orthotic device is designed to support growth, function, and participation—in school, at home, and in the community.

A Comprehensive, Collaborative Approach to Pediatric Care

Partners in Your Child’s Medical Team

We work closely with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary teams throughout the region to ensure complete continuity of care. This includes close collaboration with (but not limited to):

  • Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) Programs, including:

  • Limb Differences Clinic, which provides comprehensive interdisciplinary care for children with congenital, traumatic, or acquired limb differences

  • Child Family Support Center (CFSC), which is a family-focused, interdisciplinary program, for children ages birth to 5, located in the Baltimore metropolitan area

  • Specialized Transition Program (STP), a pediatric rehabilitation day hospital supporting intensive therapy and functional gains during transitional recovery periods

  • Johns Hopkins Pediatric Orthopaedics, whose specialists offer advanced management for limb deformities, limb differences, and complex musculoskeletal conditions that may require coordinated orthotic or prosthetic solutions

  • West Virginia University Children’s Hospital, which provides comprehensive care and is a close referral partner for our Western Maryland office

  • County Infant and Toddler Programs, which provides free, family-centered early intervention programs—such as physical and occupational therapy—to young children with developmental delays or disabilities

These partnerships allow us to participate directly in clinical planning and ensure your child receives the most appropriate device at the right moment in their growth and recovery.

Specialized Pediatric Expertise

Our team has extensive experience supporting children with a wide variety of diagnoses and needs, including (but not limited to):

  • Congenital limb differences

  • Limb loss and amputations due to trauma or illness

  • Neuromuscular and developmental conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, stroke, and other pediatric rehabilitation diagnoses

  • Cranial deformities (e.g. plagiocephaly)

  • Orthopedic conditions such as clubfoot, scoliosis, and leg length differences

  • Postsurgical or rehabilitative orthotic and prosthetic needs

We also provide devices that support children enrolled in intensive therapy or rehabilitation programs, adapting solutions as they progress through recovery and developmental stages.

Family Centered Care

We understand that children thrive when their families feel supported and informed. Our clinicians take the time to listen, educate, and involve caregivers throughout the entire process—from initial evaluation to fitting, adjustments, and follow-up care as your child grows.

Our office spaces are designed to be welcoming and child friendly, and our approach prioritizes comfort, partnership, and confidence.

Innovative Technology for Growing Bodies

3D printed prosthetic arm- both socket and terminal device are 3D printed!

Dankmeyer integrates modern fabrication and fitting technologies—including lightweight materials, additive manufacturing, and 3D scanning—to ensure that every device is functional, durable, and comfortable for our patients.

Because children grow quickly, we prioritize adaptability and provide ongoing monitoring to ensure each device continues to fit and function safely.

Expanding Access Through So Every BODY Can Move – Maryland

Dankmeyer is honored to be a statewide leader in advancing the So Every BODY Can Move initiative in Maryland. We played a central role in championing legislation aimed at expanding insurance coverage for activity-specific orthotic and prosthetic devices—ensuring that children have access not only to everyday mobility solutions, but also to devices that allow them to participate in sports, recreation, and adaptive play.

Our team continues to work diligently to help families navigate coverage opportunities. When insurance allows, we provide activity-specific devices such as running blades, sport optimized prostheses, and specialized orthotic devices designed for movement, athletics, and therapeutic recreation. And when one's insurance does not provide such coverage, we provide the family with additional resources to help support this medically necessary care.

We take a whole child approach for our youngest patients: understanding each child’s goals, collaborating with therapists, physicians, and coaches when appropriate, and fitting devices that support safe, joyful participation. By blending advocacy with individualized care, Dankmeyer helps Maryland’s children experience greater freedom, possibility, and belonging in movement.
